Ranch History

Named in honor of Dan’s grandparents Lyle and Ester Vergith, Lylester ranch is third-generation family owned and is has been expanded in pasture additions by Dan and Patricia Vergith. Dan spent most summers at the ranch, just outside of Martell Nebraska, helping his grandparents with their cattle operation and was very grateful for the opportunity to purchase the land from his aunt and uncle, Bob and Deb Vergith in 2007. Since then, the Vergith’s have developed a registered Angus herd that is both exemplary in seed stock production and strong in carcass values that meet and exceed today’s terminal market demands. Dan’s primary directive: form and function preside over numbers, guide his every decision in the herd makeup. Through the procurement of a great ranch crew that is the backbone of the operation, Dan and Patricia know their herd is in good hands 365 days a year. Their passion for the animals and the success of the ranch is apparent to anyone who visits. Legacy and innovation truly collide at Lylester Ranch.

It was 1978. Getting a great steak at home or even at a restaurant was hit or miss. The Certified Angus Beef ® founders said, “You know what ? We can do better. We can lay down a set of uncompromising standards for taste and then find the best Angus ranchers to help us.” The eventual result was the Certified Angus Beef ® brand, the heartland’s first premium brand of beef. A veritable who’s who of ranchers, along with Dr. Bob VanStavern, a renowned meat scientist from The Ohio State University, helped develop the uncompromising set of standards that are still part of the brand’s foundation today. Decades later, the vision to be the best of the best remains. Which is why every cut of our beef is judged on 10 exacting quality standards. And why no other brand of beef is as juicy, as tender or as full of flavor. Nebraska Cattlemen began with Nebraska Stockgrowers in 1888, and merged with Nebraska Livestock Feeders Association, and Nebraska Feedlot Council to form Nebraska Cattlemen in 1988. We are organized to protect members’ financial interest. Proactive in nature, Nebraska Cattlemen works through public policy to develop a positive business climate for members and develops several educational opportunities for members. Governed by a Board of Directors whose members are selected by nine regions of the state – by the four segment councils and the six policy areas with local affiliate across the state representing the grassroots members.
